Alex grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina, spending the majority of his time hiking and camping in the woods, playing basketball (either on an organized team or a pickup game in the neighborhood), and serving in the little country church where he first came to know the Lord. 

 

In 2002 Alex decided to leave the mountains for the piedmont in Raleigh, where he earned his degree in Graphic Design from the College of Design at North Carolina State University. Over the next several years he helped to develop marketing strategies and communication materials for clients in a range of different industries, from biotech and life sciences to government and education. It was also during this time that Alex volunteered at Neighbor to Neighbor, a local Raleigh non-profit, and discovered his love for urban ministry and community development. In September 2014 he was led to his current position at Jobs for Life, where he is now able to combine his love for design and marketing with his passion for community development and serving those in need. 

 

Alex lives in Raleigh with his wife, Caroline, and their two-year old son, Eli, and continues to volunteer at Neighbor to Neighbor (and still hikes and plays basketball every chance he gets).
